MANILA (Apr 4) — In view of the improved security conditions in Lebanon and Jordan, the government has lifted the ban on the deployment of of overseas Filipinos, Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said.

However, citing a memorandum by the Department of Foreign Affairs to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the ban to Iraq, Nigeria and Afghanistan stays.

Although the fighting in Lebanon and Jordan had ceased, the Philippine government maintained the ban noting a resurgence of the conflict was possible.  Despite this, many Filipinos trickled into these countries for jobs. This resulted in the government discussing with the two Middle East countries for the lifting of the ban and ensure sufficient protection for the welfare of the workers.
