LOS ANGELES (Apr. 15) -- New Filipino international singing sensation Charice Pempengco sang the U.S. National Anthem at the opening day of the Major League Baseball season April 13 at the Dodgers Stadium at Chavez Ravine amid 55,000 fans in attendance.

While Charice sang, a 150-member of the Armed Services unfurled a U.S. flag covering the entire 100,000 square feet of bermuda-grass baseball field. To add spiff to the Dodgers opening day match with the Giants, a plane flew over the stadium releasing blue-and-white confetti that reached the stands.

Fans were wowed by Charice's big voice and goose-bump inducing performance giving her a standing ovation soon after her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.  According to Charice, it was her first time to sing it in a baseball park.

Charice arrived in Los Angeles late Sunday night on April 12 and barely had enough rest before the event.  Despite that and her anxiety which was building up before she sang, she delivered a performance which could perhaps leave a lasting memory to baseball fans who came on opening day at Chavez Ravine.

Like everything else that has happened to her since being "discovered" with a great singing potential in YouTube, Charice acknowledged her experience singing at the stadium as another opportunity.  She was also very much surprised at her being selected to sing the Star Spangled Banner.

The Dodgers won their home-opener game against the San Francisco Giants, 11-1.
