Tani Cantil-SakauyeSACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Tani Cantil Sakauye, a Filipina American jurist, was nominated on Wednesday, July 21, by Gov. Arnold Scwarzenegger to become Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court. The governor formally introduced Cantil Sakauye during a packed news conference under the Capitol dome.

In announcing his choice for Chief Justice, Gov. Scwarzenegger said in a statement that "she is a living example of the American Dream and when she is confirmed by the voters in November, Judge Cantil Sakauye will become California's first Filipina chief justice, adding to our High Court's already rich diversity."

(PIDCI) as one of the main features of the commemoration of the 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

NEW YORK CITY - Four leading public officials called upon immigrant and communities of color to fully participate in the upcoming Census 2010. At a joint press conference organized by New York Community Media Alliance, in partnership with New York Immigration Coalition, NYC Census 2010 office and CUNY TV, held at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism on Friday, March 19, the officials reminded New York’s diverse ethnic and community media and advocacy groups present that not participating in the Census 2010 will keep many members of their communities invisible at all levels of government and rob them of political power and their share in development funds.

NEW YORK - This early, the number of entries to the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc.'s (PIDCI) search for the 2010 Diwa ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence) has reached 11, considered a record high compared to previous years.  Last year, there were seven candidates.
