JERSEY CITY, NJ – Centre Pompidou, one of France’s best-known art institutions, which chose Jersey City as the site of its first North America branch in June 2021, will hold its first public event on March 1, 2024, at the Hudson County Community College (HCCC).
The open-to-all free event, A Night of Ideas, co-curated by Villa Albertine and Centre Pompidou, will address urban growth and the future of cities with debates, installation, multimedia pop-ups, and workshops to respond to a question: “How Do We Build and How Do We Live in Cities Today.”
According to a press statement, interactive, celebratory, and content-rich, the Night of Ideas invites thought leaders and the public to engage in major global issues through a debate festival, performances, readings, and more.
The Fulop administration said with over half of its participants either born, working, or residing in New Jersey, the program mirrors the vibrant community of the Garden State. Collaborations with local organizations such as the Jersey City Free Public Library, Dense Magazine, Bike JC, and Sustainable JC further solidify the event’s presence in the city.
Hudson County Community College is across the street from the historic Pathside Building, where the future Centre Pompidou will be. Exclusive guided building tours will be available through an RSVP system during the Night of Ideas.
The Centre Pompidou is set to open this year and is expected to host exhibitions drawn from its modern and contemporary art collection, like masterpieces by artists Frida Kahlo, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, and Marcel Duchamp.
With the national theme “Outside the Lines,” the Night of Ideas will return across 20 US cities this year. The theme centers on urban life and development and raises questions about the impact of climate change, new technologies, urban renewal, and social and cultural activism.
The Night of Ideas 2024 is presented nationwide by the Villa Albertine and Albertine Foundation. It is coordinated worldwide by the Institut Français.
