Part XXXIV of the “Geopolitics” Series
An international peacekeeping force — as fielded by the United Nations (U.N.) is perhaps the best option for peace and prosperity to reign in the Middle East. It can be the first step in silencing guns and other war-making equipment.
This column was written last January 14, 2024, an op-ed piece that suggested respectfully to President Biden and other American policy and decision makers that “An American-led Coalition Must Work in Yemen and Islamic Nations as U.N. Peacekeeping Forces.” Readers can view it again at this link.
It was a follow-up on an earlier suggestion made on October 29, 2023, that the United States and its allies must work through and with the U.N. to avoid another Afghanistan-like misadventure in Gaza or elsewhere in the Islamic World. It was headlined, “Azerbaijani and Filipino Peacekeepers Can Maintain Peace and Order in the Middle East.”
To continue propping up Israel and her Muslim neighbors and funding their self-defense forces in laying waste to neighborhoods will prolong the agony of peace-loving peoples all over the world. It would have been cheaper and more constructive had the United States, Great Britain, France, British Commonwealth countries, and other allied nations used more than an estimated two trillion American greenbacks or in different currencies (or more and counting) spent in the past 75 years of funding the wars between Israel and her neighbors.
Had the same funds been used for socioeconomic development in all the countries in the Middle East, it would have been one of the most developed regions in the world by now.

President Biden has a rare opportunity to call a summit of all the national leaders in the Middle East and broker the first step in ending wars. He can employ the suggested “Biden Back-to-Basics Doctrine,” described in this column since December 2020, in nearly three dozen articles. And begin massive socioeconomic development projects — under the auspices of the U.N. Peace and security can be maintained along the borders of warring nations by the U.N. and its international peacekeepers, engineering brigades, and medical corps.
This column has proposed constructing “Abraham Squares” that will consist of building side-by-side places of worship of Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths (and all their branches and denominations), a medical center complete with schools of medicine, nursing and science courses, research-and-development centers. Manufacturing concerns can follow under Public-Private Partnerships that will turn out affordable medicines, vaccines, and other items needed for people to lead healthier lives.
Perhaps in the remaining months of 2024 and the expected four years of his second term, President Biden — and his fellow geopolitical leaders — can change the world and make all citizens peaceful and more progressive. Yes, a world of ever-lasting peaceful and progressive regions that have ended perennial wars, epidemics, pandemics, and economic depression, all of which are now compounded by Global Warming.
