APIAVote, NAL seek AANHPI Women in Rising applicants for a fully-covered training in NYC

NEW YORK – The Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) of Asian Pacific Islander Vote (APIAVote) and the New American Leaders (NAL) have partnered to host a first-ever AANHPI Women Rising training in New York City from May 13 to 15, 2022. They are encouraging women to submit their applications on April 18, 2022.

Selected AANHPI women will learn how to own their authentic stories and leadership skills, address anti-Asian hate, grow their power, and transform our democracy. AANHPI Women Rising will provide attendees with the tools and training to run for office, influence policy decisions, and create more intersectional and inclusive communities at every level of our democracy.

New American Leaders will fully cover travel and accommodations for the in-person training in New York City. Admitted participants will also be required to attend a two-part webinar series in the month following the in-person training program.

According to AANHPI, women are the backbones of our communities. But despite their leadership, they only make up just 1.9% of all voting members of Congress, 1% of all statewide elective executives, and 1% of all state legislators. It’s time for that to change.

The New American Leaders’ “Ready to Lead 2022” program identifies the immigrant experience as an asset in civic leadership. The curriculum, specifically designed by New Americans, shows trainees how to message, fundraise, and embrace one’s heritage to become a successful candidate.

At Ready to Lead®, selected participants will:

  • Write a compelling stump speech rooted in values
  • Learn grassroots fundraising tactics from other elected officials
  • Practice messaging techniques and pivoting strategies
  • Engage with New American leaders from across the country

Participants in AANHPI Women Rising will be required to attend two webinars after the training and participate in a total of 2 hours of coaching in June and July 2022 (1 session per month).

Applications are due by April 18, so don’t wait—apply now! If you have questions, please contact Raymond Partolan at rpartolan@apiavote.org.
