Jesus still wants people to follow Him and be His disciples. Jesus was always calling people to follow Him, but it was always the person’s choice to follow or not. Jesus is calling us to follow Him, but what are we going to do with His call?
In Luke 5: 27-28, “Later, as Jesus left the town, He saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow Me and be My disciple,” Jesus calls, but what would Levi do? He had a choice, and this was his response: “So Levi got up, left everything, and followed Jesus.”
What would be our choice? Levi left everything: His job, His possessions, His power, His security, and followed Jesus. How many today want to follow Jesus, but we do not want to move, leave anything in this world. Jesus is calling, but what are we going to do?
Levi held a banquet, and Jesus was the guest of honor. Levi invites all of his friends, who were sinners. The religious people see that Jesus is at this banquet with sinners and start complaining about what Jesus is doing.
Jesus answers the complaints of the religious people: Luke 5:31-32; “Healthy people do not need a doctor – sick people do. I have not come to CALL THOSE WHO THINK THEY ARE RIGHTEOUS, BUT THOSE WHO KNOW THEY ARE SINNERS AND NEED TO REPENT.”
We see that Jesus is calling those who know they are sinners and need a Savior!
If we are saved, let us shift from being served to serving people who need Jesus! Ask the Lord to give you the opportunity to share Jesus with people who need a Savior! Lord, help us to be more like Jesus!
