Paul writes to the church about the need to live in the power of the Holy Spirit! If the early church needed the power of the Holy Spirit, in our culture today, we need the power of the Holy Spirit as well!

In Ephesians 5: 18-20, listen to the principles that God wants us to take on the journey of following Jesus. “Don’t be drunk with wine because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

If you want to take this journey of following Jesus, here are some spiritual principles for us:

  • Do not get drunk on wine or any other addictive substance, behavior, or addiction. How many people have been ruined, destroyed, and even died due to booze, drugs, gambling, and addictions? How many marriages and families have been destroyed by these substances? Why do people do it? Because they are looking for something to get them through the day. Paul tells us that as Christians: “Be filled with the Spirit.” If you want to get through this life journey in the right way, be filled and stay filled with the Holy Spirit.
  • Be a worshiper to God! Every one of us is worshipping something in life! We can worship ourselves, people, stuff, money, pleasure, sex, religion. But Paul tells us to worship God on our journey of life. Begin to worship God daily instead of just coming to church and worshiping God. Turn your car into a place of worship, put on some good worship music, and sing to the Lord in your vehicle. On the express bus, put your headphones on, listen to worship music or scripture, and watch what will happen in your life.
  • Be thankful on the journey of life! We need to learn the principles of giving thanks in all situations, for this is the will of God for us. Give thanks more than complaining, arguing, and being critical and negative! Life changes for the person who is thankful to the Lord and others!

You cannot change yesterday’s journey, but you can change your journey today by implementing these principles into your life starting today!
