Part XVI of the “Proactive People Must Protect Own Neighborhood” Series
On May 19, 2021, this columnist wrote, “Examining the DNA of Filipino Melting Pot Members,” at this link. Unfortunately, many Overseas Filipinos and their melting-pot associations did not take on the 2021 challenge of even examining their DNA and capabilities. Perhaps community organizations must reinvent themselves by adopting the tenets of Cooperative Economics. And organize cooperatives as their arm in doing business, especially in joint or tri-ventures, with North American businesses.
Here is the gist of today’s column, as presented in the May 2021 article: The “Overseas Filipino Melting Pot” (OFMP) is an “economic budding empire” that can comprise more than 32 million families by July 4, 2046, across almost 100 countries. It can become one of the driving engines that could help power, by 2050—and beyond—the near completion of a North American Modern Industrial Revolution. Yes, after the OFMP helps in achieving real positive changes in the Philippines first, if not simultaneously.
Mexico will celebrate the 461st anniversary of Filipino-Mexican friendship in November 2026. By 2050, Mexico may become the world’s fourth-biggest economy. It can achieve that status if Filipinos and other former Iberian colonies become willing and able business partners. It would be like creating a modern version of the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade.
But sad to say, many Filipino residents, especially those who have become citizens of the United States, Canada, or Mexico, never seriously studied how their huge household incomes — if invested in cooperatives and credit unions — could have made dramatic impacts in helping solve social cancers (like homelessness, poverty, lack of universal healthcare, etcetera) in North America and in their original homeland, which is the Philippines.
More than five million North Americans of Filipino descent earn relatively high incomes. Filipino Americans alone earn more than U.S. $92 billion per year. Ten topics have been written about the proposed celebrations of the American-Philippine Centennial (APC) starting on July 4, 2046. If you type that date into the Philippine Daily Mirror search box, readers will find links to the 10 articles discussing the upcoming centennial celebrations and proposed projects. Here is a link to make them easier to read.
Excluding the last quarter of 2026, only 19 years remain before 2046 arrives. But that is more than enough time to organize the next generation of leaders as cooperatives and achieve socioeconomic empowerment for OFMP members and their North American counterparts.
A “New Frontier for the Youth” Can Create Millions of Young Millionaires was discussed in this column on August 18, 2021, at this link: The New Frontier is North America. Please read and study it as an advance assignment for next Wednesday.
