MANILA (June 22) — After a year the M/V Princess of the Stars capsized in the stormy seas off Sibuyan Island, killing hundreds of people, the Department of Justice (DoJ) has finally filed criminal charges with the Manila City Regional Trial Court.
Charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide were Sulpicio Lines first vice president Edgar Go and the ship’s captain Florencio Marion. The Department of Justice recommended P320,000 bail for each of the two accused.
Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera said an investigation on other people linked to the sinking of the M/V Princess of the Stars, which was carrying 800 passengers and crew when it capsized in the evening of June 21, 2008 at the height of typhoon “Frank”, which battered central Philippines.
