The end of February marks the 35th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Uprising in 1986. Decades of sacrifice—the blood, sweat, and tears of the Filipino people—proceeded the momentous event of the ousting of dictator Ferdinand Marcos from power.
To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Uprising, the Malaya Movement New Jersey presents a round table discussion with those who took on the struggle against Marcos and lived through EDSA People Power.
The round table, “Avenues of Resistance: Living Histories of EDSA People Power Uprising from Jersey to the Philippines,” features panelists who will share their resistance against Marcos and their experience of People Power Uprising itself. They will share what lessons we can draw from EDSA People Power Uprising today as Filipinos abroad, young and old, committed to standing for democracy and human rights by resisting Duterte’s dictatorship in the homeland. We aim for this to be a dynamic event in which the panelists will dialogue with the audience as we build the movement in New Jersey to rise up against Duterte.
