The pop-up indigenous multi-medium #art installation by social artist Lugao Ukas Casidsid-Kasberg of the #Hanunoo-Mangyan tribe of Mindoro Island, #Philippines, we experience works from his traveling exhibition “Balay Means Home” (curated by @daniciamonet) focused on his 2018 return to live in his balay (home) village after being away for over 26yrs.
The installation includes photos, short-film “Rice 4 Kidz”, ambient village sounds, and textiles from his home. There will be a special Mangyan Mindful Beading workshop taught by Siling, his mother, who has 40+yrs of beading experience.
A limited quantity of donations match gifts of Mangyan handicrafts and prints available. Donations go to social impact initiatives to bring both equality & equity to the indigenous people of #Mindoro. Partners include @Project_Barkada & @InangsFoundation to provide Mangyan children w/ school lunch, cultural revival programs, fairtrade for Mangyan artisans & community Peace Center that will serve the surrounding 100+ villages with a library, multimedia room, seed bank, classes, printers & computers.
All materials from handwoven crafts were grown, processed, crafted by Hanunoo-Mangyan weavers on their ancestral land.
Donate to support Mangyan initiatives through Project Barkada, 501(c)(3) Nonprofit, via Venmo @ProjectBarkada or email ProjectBarkadaNY@Gmail.com — note “Mangyan donation.”
