This Saturday, at 2 p.m., the steps of City Hall in Jersey City will become a rally stage for the #StopAsianHateJC rally, to gather community members in solidarity of stopping the rise of violence against the Asian American community that has shocked the nation in recent weeks. The #StopAsianHateJC committee, the organizing force behind the rally, is a grassroots coalition comprised of immigrant rights and community activists, organizers, business leaders, civic leaders, and concerned individuals. Asians comprise 25.1% of Jersey City’s population, according to the 2019 American Community Survey.

Among the confirmed list of speakers are New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, Amol Sinha, Executive Director of ACLU-NJ, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), Hamel Vyas, Chair of the Jersey City Immigrant Affairs Commission, Migrante-NJ, and NJ Alliance for Immigrant Justice. Asian American elected officials who are confirmed to speak include Mayor Ravi Bhalla of Hoboken, Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, Mayor Arvin Amatorio of Bergenfield, Mussab Ali, Jersey City Board of Education President, and Jersey City Councilman At-Large Rolando Lavarro who is part of the #StopAsianHateJC committee.

The #StopAsianHateJC committee will deliver a set of asks to address the rise of anti-Asian violence. Various community-based organizations have been invited to share relevant resources with the community.
