NEW YORK – The Filipino American Human Services Inc. FAHSI will select one student who will receive a renewable $5,000 award per academic year for a maximum award of $20,000 over four years. During the recipient’s matriculation at a college, he or she will also have the opportunity to receive mentoring from Frederick and Demi Seguritan, FAHSI staff and members of the board of directors.

“The scholarship is a great opportunity for Fil-Am students to pursue their dreams of going to college,” Jessica Abobo, last year’s scholarship recipient, said. A resident of Flushing, Queens, she is currently pursuing a degree in nursing at New York University.

Students in the NY/NJ/CT Tri-State area are encouraged to apply now, as the applications for the pro0gram must be received and postmarked no later than Sunday, May 30, 2009. After applications have been reviewed, the top three finalists will participate in an interview panel.  The 2009-10 scholarship recipient will be announced in July 2009.
