NEW YORK — Last Friday, October 17, the Filipino American Democratic Club of New York (FADCNY) lit up Manhattan’s Lower East Side with a powerful evening of community, culture, and civic momentum. Held at Kalye Rivington, a beloved Filipino restaurant, the event—”Filipino Americans for NYC’s Future”—brought together incumbent and candidates for political office, grassroots organizers, and dozens of energized community members to celebrate Filipino American History Month and galvanize support ahead of the 2025 NYC general elections.
Council Member Julie Won, Assemblymember Harvey Epstein, and State Senator Brian Kavanagh joined the festivities, underscoring the growing influence of Filipino Americans in New York politics. Assemblymember Epstein, one of FADCNY’s endorsed candidates, shared heartfelt remarks, saying, “It’s an honor to celebrate Filipino American History Month with FADCNY and be part of a slate that reflects the heart and advocacy of our city. Together, we’re building a more just and united New York. “
“I look forward to our continued work together to serve our community with heart, advocacy, and a vision for a more just and united city,” added Epstein.
The evening also marked a significant milestone for FADCNY—the unveiling of its refreshed branding and a bold articulation of its guiding principles. President Michelle Amor reflected on the club’s evolution:
“This was a moment to pause and ask ourselves—why do we do this work, and how do we carry it forward? Our new identity mirrors the clarity and purpose of the community we represent.”
Designed by Paulo Tonn, the new visual identity draws inspiration from iconic New York symbols.
“We fused the torch—a symbol of hope—with the Grand Central typeface to honor the city that shapes us,” Tonn explained.
The event’s Advocate Sponsor, Dear Flor—a Filipina-owned business celebrating Filipino flavors—added a personal touch. CEO Lisa Reid shared her journey and the company’s deep ties to the community, reinforcing the evening’s theme of cultural pride and civic engagement.
Proceeds from the event will support FADCNY’s endorsed candidates in the 2025 general election and expand Filipino American visibility in New York politics. Adam Lee, founding executive board member of the new Latino Democrats of NYC, captured the spirit of the night. “FADCNY continues to grow by connecting heritage, influence, and action. I’m proud to be part of this movement.”
FADCNY is keeping the momentum alive with a Day of Action for Eve Cho Guillergan on Saturday, November 2—the final day of early voting. Guillergan is poised to become the first Filipina judge in NYC, running for Civil Court Judge in Queens Municipal Court, District 2.
The club will also launch photo bank sessions for newly endorsed candidates, Juleigh Chin, Nassau County Legislator, District 9, and Ben Chou, NYC Council, District 19.
FADCNY will continue co-sponsoring events with Filipinos for Zohran, building collective power as Election Day approaches.
