Filipino Fisherman Rescued Off Spratly Islands

Hanoi, VIETNAM — Bochito Lagdamin, 43, was rescued by a crew of a Vietnamese fishing boat, off the Truong Sa (Spratly) Island. Authorities from Da Nang City’s Department of Foreign Affairs have contacted the Philippine Embassy in Hanoi to repatriate Lagdamin.

According to Colonel Duong De Dung, commander of the Border Guard in Da Nang City in Hanoi, Vietnam, Lagdamin, who was found drifting in sea when rescued, was provided first aid until the boat landed at Da Nang Port August 19.  He is being accommodated at the Border Guard Station 248 pending a hand-over, said Pham Phu Thanh, the captain of the boat.

Lagdamin, who is married with two children, is a fisherman from Negros.
