Jesus tells us that life’s journey does not end when we take our last breath. This journey is a journey for all eternity. We prepare so much for journeys, vacations, careers, and retirement, but are we prepared for the journey of eternity?

Jesus tells us, “it is appointed unto man to die once, and then comes the judgment.” Are we ready to stand before God? What is God going to judge us on? We need to know what we need to do to prepare for the journey of eternity.

Will God judge us on how good of a person we have been? How religious have we been? The family that we grew up in? NO! God will judge us; what did we do with the gift of Jesus Christ? “God so loved the world that He gave us One and Only Son. That whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have ETERNAL LIFE.” John 3:16

In Luke 16: 19-31, Jesus shows us a glimpse of what will happen in the journey of eternity. We see two men after they have died. One was rich and had everything in this world, and the other had nothing. They both died and faced judgment. In verses 25-26, we read, “But Abraham said to him, “Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, and Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here (heaven), comforted, and in anguish (hell). And besides, there is a great chasm separating us. No one can cross over to you from there, and no one can cross over to us from there.”

That tells us that no one knows when we are going to die. That is why we need to be ready for the journey of eternity today. “Today is the day of the salvation.” There are no second chances! There are no do-overs when we take our last breath!

I am thankful that I know I am ready for the journey to heaven because of Jesus Christ! Today, you can stamp your eternal passport by asking Jesus to come into your life and begin the journey of being a follower of Jesus!
