God is the God of all my days! What an incredible promise God gives to His Children who follow Him. We do not know what will happen tomorrow, so I need to know Him, His Word, and His voice.
In 1 Kings 17 – God tells Elijah to go to the brook and that the ravens will feed you, and you will drink from the brook during a famine. In verse 7 – The brook dries up, and there is no more water. Why? Because God sees things that we do not see.
God closed one door but was already opening the next door.
1 Kings 17: 8-9 – “Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go and live in the village of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. I have instructed a widow there to feed you.” Can you imagine what Elijah must have thought? I am leaving the brook and the ravens feeding me. Lord, where do you want me to go?
Because Elijah knew that God was the God of all his days, he got up and obeyed and went to the village. When he arrived, a widow was picking up sticks for the fire. Elijah asked her to bring him a cup of water and a piece of bread.
The widow replies to Elijah. I do not have a piece of bread in my house to provide for my son and myself. I am collecting these sticks to cook the little flour and oil left. We are going to eat and then die.
Try to understand this from the widow’s perspective and Elijah’s perspective. Elijah tells her, “Do not be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first and then prepare the meal for you and your son.” What? Then Elijah said, “For this is what the Lord God of Israel says: There will always be flour and oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again.”
In verse 15 – “So she did as Elijah said and she and Elijah and her family continued to eat for many days.”
Think about this and the faith, trust, and obedience that both Elijah and the widow had. God planned for Elijah to save this family and use this widow to provide for him.
What are some lessons that you can learn from these verses:
- God is the God of all my days and directing me, but I must follow Him wherever He leads me.
- God wants to use us to bless others and to be generous to those in need.
- God wants us to walk by faith and trust Him as our provider.
- When you give it all to the Lord – He will take care of us!
What lessons can you learn?
