We need the Holy Spirit to empower and equip us to follow Jesus in the real world! We will never be able to be spiritual without the Holy Spirit, but we can be religious without the Holy Spirit!
Jesus tells His followers; why we need the Holy Spirit to work in and through our lives. In John 16: 7-8, “But in fact, it is best for you (and me) that I go away (Jesus), because if I don’t the Advocate (Holy Spirit) won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send the Holy Spirit to you. And when He comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.”
Why do we need the empowering and equipping of the Holy Spirit to follow Jesus?
- The work of the Holy Spirit is to convict of sin! We cannot convict anyone of sin! We can judge people, debate people, argue with people, preach at people, and make people feel guilty, but only the Holy Spirit can get inside the heart and spirit of a person and convict them of sin in their lives. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sins and convict others of their sin!
- The work of the Holy Spirit is to reveal God’s righteousness! The Holy Spirit shows us God’s righteousness and empowers us to live righteous life because of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We do not need to walk around telling people how righteous we think we are. We need to allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, and He will empower us and equip us to live right with Jesus, and people will see that we are walking in the Spirit.
- The work of the Holy Spirit is to reveal that the day of judgment is coming! The Holy Spirit is building His church and His people to be ready for the coming of the Lord! “In the last days, I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh…”
Today, I open my life to the full work of the Holy Spirit to empower and equip me for every opportunity that He brings my way to walk in His Spirit!
