When you think of David in the Bible, you can think of many life stories that we can apply to our lives. We can think about the shepherd boy taking care of the sheep. We can think about his victories over the bear and lion and the killing of Goliath. We can also read of his failures, sins, and disobeying God. That is how life is for all of us: We have victories and defeats.

David was king, and in 1 Chronicles 15-16, David moves the Ark (the presence of God) back into the city of Jerusalem, which is a great victory for David. As the ark is being brought into Jerusalem, everyone praises the Lord. David, the king, dances before the Lord with joy and worship. His wife, Michal, is filled with contempt for David because it was not dignified for the king.

In 1 Chronicles 16, David the worshiper wrote of a song of thanksgiving.

1 Chronicles 16: 8-9: “Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim His greatness. Let the whole world know what He has done. Sing to Him; yes, sing His praises. Tell everyone about His wonderful deeds.”

Here are some principles of worship that we need to incorporate into our daily lives:

  • Give thanks to the Lord! Express your thanks to the Lord daily. We read: “Give thanks to the Lord in all things, for this is the will of God for you in Christ.” There will be times when it might be easy to give thanks and other times when it might not be so easy. But we need to give the Lord thanks because of Who He is!
  • Talk about the Lord’s greatness! Greatness is because we serve a mighty God on the Throne, and He is our great God!
  • Tell others what the Lord has done! Start talking to other people about what God is doing in your life!
  • Sing to the Lord! When we sing, we bless God and help ourselves in our spiritual journey! Stop complaining and start singing! “A merry heart does good like a medicine.” Let your worship be a medicine for your spirit!

Today, try incorporating these principles of praise and worship into your daily life. You might like it!
