Jesus has called every follower of Jesus to a ministry of serving, and not being served! We love having others serve us, but Jesus calls us to serve others!
In Matthew 20:20, 28, the disciples come to Jesus, and two ask if they can sit on either side of Jesus. The other disciples get angry at them for asking for those seats of power and position.
Jesus responds to all of the disciples: “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. BUT among you (followers of Jesus) it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
As followers of Jesus, we are to be constantly looking to serve others and not to be served! Why should I serve others? Because that is what it means to be more like Jesus. Jesus came to serve people by giving His life on the Cross.
Do we have the heart of serving others? Do we have the heart of Jesus?
Lord, help me always to remember to be like Jesus and serve others!
