Lord, help me grow in being a part of Your family today

What a wonderful truth we read in God’s Word, that God has chosen us! God has selected us to be a part of His family. We must accept Him as our Savior and Lord, but God was the One that came looking for us.

In Colossians 3: 12-14, we see what is required to be a part of His family. “Since God chose you to be holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.”

God chose us! God saved us by sending His One and Only Son, Jesus, to come and die on the cross to forgive us of our sins. We must accept Christ as our Savior and Lord.

But then this journey of following Jesus starts in our lives. Paul writes to the church and tells them that we need to start doing this personally in our journey of following Jesus.

We need to choose to follow Jesus and take responsibility for our spiritual growth. Paul lists what this looks like in our journey: We need tender-hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience with others, making room for people’s faults, and forgiveness, and primarily, these things will develop in our lives when we focus on love.”

How are we doing with that list? How many of us need to ask the Lord to help us develop these qualities of a follower of Jesus? I need to continually ask for His strength to develop these qualities in my journey of following Jesus.

Lord, help me grow in being a part of Your family today!
