God desires to communicate with us! Prayer is not just about us speaking to God; God, the Creator of the Universe, wants to talk to us! We can listen to many voices, but there is no more important voice than the voice of the Lord.
I Samuel 3—Samuel, the young boy Hannah brought to the temple and dedicated to the Lord for all his life, is growing and serving in the Tabernacle. In verses 1-10, we see that Samuel is in bed and hears the Lord speak: “Samuel.” “Yes,” Samuel replies. He gets up and runs to Eli, the priest, and thinks that he is calling him. This happens a couple of times. Eli then realizes that it is the Lord who is calling Samuel.
In verses 9-10, “So Eli said to Samuel, “Go and lie down against and if someone calls again, say, “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening.” So Samuel went back to bed. And the Lord called as before, “Samuel, Samuel.” And Samuel replied, “Speak, your servant is listening.”
We need to ask the Lord to speak to us and listen to His voice. His voice will always align with the Word of God. We need to know His voice because He is speaking, but we need to listen.
Jesus said – “My sheep know my voice and follow after me.”
Lord, help me hear Your voice today, listen, and do what You ask me to do!
