Living in this world today, we see that so many people are full of anger, rage, frustration, and full of violence. How many times have we heard of another shooting killing people, and this is throughout our country and the world?
The journey is difficult, but James gives us good advice to keep us from becoming angry as followers of Christ.
“Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” James 1: 19-20
This is Biblical advice that will help us in life, marriage, family, and our relationships.
- Be quick to hear! How many times do we stop listening because we want to be right? Growing up, my parents gave me this advice: “God gave us two ears and one mouth.” Listen twice as much as you speak.” We need to listen to others and get their perspective. We need to listen and not debate.
- Be slow to speak! Too many of us speak before we pray or think about our words. We must ask the Lord to keep us from speaking before we think about the consequences of our words and what they will do to the other person.
- Be slow to anger! Anger is an emotion; if anger controls our lives, it will lead to danger. Anger produces nothing of Godliness in our lives!
Lord, help me to apply Your Word to my life today!
