Jesus gives the parable of the three servants in Matthew 25:14-30. In this parable, we see that the Master is Jesus, and that there are three servants. The Master was going on a trip and brought in three servants, giving each a different amount of silver to invest in the Master’s kingdom. But we see two servants invested the money and brought back to the Master double what He had given to them. One servant hid the silver in the ground and did not invest it because he was afraid of the Master.
There are still different kinds of servants today. The Master (Jesus) has blessed us with everything we need in life to be invested in His Kingdom! But we have the choice of what to do with what He has entrusted to us.
Two servants receive the blessings and invest them in building His Kingdom. When the Master returns (and Jesus is coming back again one day), just as the servants had to give an account to the Master, we will one day have to give an account to our Master, Jesus!
The two servants who invested and brought back more to the Master. We read in verses 21 & 23 – “The Master was full of praise, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
The one servant who hid his gifts, blessings in the ground, also came and stood before the Master. He said in verse 24-25, “Master, I knew that you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.”
But the Master replied to the servant in verse 26 – “You wicked and lazy servant! Verse 28 – “Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver.
Jesus says – “To those who USE WELL what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those WHO DO NOTHING, even what little they have will be taken away. Now throw this useless servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
The Lord blesses every servant, but the choice is what we are doing with the blessings, gifts, talents, and ministries that the Lord has entrusted to us!
Lord, help me to be faithful in using and investing everything that You have given me! Help me to be a Kingdom Builder!
