When you go on a journey, there are certain things that you need to have for the trip. I am getting ready to leave the country, and I have already started planning the essentials for the journey. I am preparing for a trip that is still several weeks away.
This is how we must prepare for our spiritual journey in 2024. One of the essential items that we need is the Word of God! I need to be in the Word before the journey, the trial, and the distractions of life.
Paul writes to Timothy about the importance of the Word of God for the journey. 1 Timothy 4: 16-17; “ALL Scripture is inspired by God and is USEFUL to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it (the Word of God) to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.”
The Scripture (the Word of God) is useful for life’s journey. How many things do we check out before we leave on a trip? There are so many things that we are looking into before we go. We must realize that God’s Word is useful in the spiritual journey. I want to encourage you to prioritize the Word of God in your daily life. Spend time reading the Word, studying the Word of God, and allowing the Word to get into you.
God’s Word is useful! Think about that for a moment. Why did God give us the Word? To be useful in our daily lives, to provide answers for the journey. But we must not just be hearers of the Word but also doers of the Word. When we hear and do the Word – it becomes useful to us.
- The Word of God teaches us what is right and wrong in our lives!
- The Word of God corrects us when we are going in the wrong direction.
- The Word of God teaches us to do what is right on our journey.
- The Word of God prepares and equips us for the journey of life.
Lord, help me to be ready this year for the daily journey of following Jesus by spending time in Your Word!
