Our primary purpose for living is to bring glory to God! Especially as followers of Jesus, we are to bring glory to God in all that we do in life.
Paul wrote to the church in Corinth and wrote: “So whether you eat or drink, for whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Don’t give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don’t just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.”
How do I bring glory to God by the way that I live in my everyday life? It is more than just going to church once a week and checking off the box that I am a Christian. The mark of a Christian is that I bring glory to God in my private and public life. I bring glory to God in what people see and what goes on when no one is alone.
I bring glory to God by living for Jesus in the world, so that people can see Jesus in my life. Paul says, I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. As followers of Jesus, people are watching our lives, not just listening to our words. Our children and grandchildren are watching us. Our co-workers are watching how we live at work. Our neighbors are watching us. What are they seeing?
I bring glory to God by imitating Christ. Our prayer should be – “To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, all I ask is to be like Jesus.” Why should I be like Jesus? Because that is how I bring glory to God!
Lord, help me to bring You glory today!
