Lord, help me to build my life every day on the Rock—Jesus!

Jesus concludes His teaching in Matthew 7:24-26 with a choice that every follower must make in their own life. Are we building our lives on the Rock or are we building them on the sand? That is a choice we have to all make for ourselves. Two options – two consequences – and I make the choice, determining the consequence in my life.

“Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is build on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and the floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Jesus used an illustration from construction to emphasize the importance of where you build a house. You can build it on sand or on rock. The foundation is the most important part of a house. You may not see it, focus on it, or hide it underground, but the foundation will keep the building standing in the storms that will come.

In our spiritual life, the foundation is the most important thing for the strength and security of our lives. What are we building our lives on? Are we building it on the Rock – Jesus, or are we building it on the things of this world that are like sand?

We all have two choices – and there are two consequences. Rock or Sand are the only two choices, and the two consequences are Standing Strong in the Storms of life or Crashing down!

Lord, help me to build my life every day on the Rock—Jesus!
