In Luke 6:46-49, Jesus talks about what the foundation of our lives really is. The foundation of a building is its priority: keeping it standing in storms. Without a foundation, when the rains come, the building can be washed away.
Verse 47-48; “I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to Me, listens to My teaching, and then FOLLOWS it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well-built.
We see the person who listens to God’s Word and then does it is the one who will build on the foundation of God’s Word! It is not just reading the Word, listening to sermons, and going to Bible classes; it is the person who consistently obeys the Word who is building their life on Christ. The foundation is the key to our spiritual victory!
Verse 49 – “But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”
What is the difference – storms come to everyone! No one is exempt from the trials of life. The only difference is not hearing the Word, but doing the Word of God consistently and daily!
Lord, help me to build my life on Your Word, so that when the storms come, I will remain strong in You!
