When you’re building a house, you need to build with the right materials. In the last place we rented, it was a new condo, but the builder used cheap materials, and shortly after moving in, there were many issues.
What are we using to build our spiritual lives? Paul writes about this in 1 Corinthians 3:12-15: “If anyone builds in this foundation (Jesus) using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but will be saved – even though only as one escaping through the flames.”
What happens with gold, silver and costly stones when the fire comes? They are purified and made stronger. What happens with wood, hay and straw? They are burnt up. The materials we build matter if we are going to get better or get burned up.
Are you building your life on the things of this world that will not survive? Or are building our lives on Jesus, the Word of God, Holy Spirit? Are we obeying God’s Word and God’s Will for our lives?
The building materials make the difference now and for all eternity. Lord, help me to build my life with the right materials!
