As we take this journey of following Jesus, we need to realize that being with Jesus will make us more like Jesus. If we follow Jesus, then we desire to become more like Jesus!

Paul writes in Ephesians 5: 1-2 what this will look like in everyday life for a follower of Jesus. “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do because you are His dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered Himself for us, a pleasing aroma to God.”

  • God’s Word tells us to imitate God in our daily lives! That means we have been so close to Him that He begins to change us. Being married for 42 years and because of being with Emma for so long, we have become more and more like each other. The longer you are with Jesus, the more you will imitate Him. People should look at us and see Jesus in our lives!
  • Imitate God in everything you do! Following Jesus is not just something we do on Sundays when we go to church. But we are to imitate God in our marriages, families, work, pleasure, where we go, what we do, and how we relate to people. Our attitudes and behavior should become more like Jesus.
  • Imitate God’s love! “Live a life filled with love, following the example of Jesus. When people think about us, do they see God’s love in our lives?

Do they want to follow Jesus because of what they see in our lives? Do our children and grandchildren want to follow Jesus because of what they see in our lives? Do our neighbors want the Jesus that we talk about because they see Jesus in our lives?

Lord, help me to imitate you today!
