Lord, help me to invest my life in the things that will matter for all eternity!

How did your investments do this last year? What did you invest in? What kind of returns did you get for your investments?

Did you think that I was talking about finances? No! I was talking about what did you invest your life in this past year? Who did you invest in? What kind of results or returns did we get back?

This is what Jesus asked His disciples in Luke 9: 24-25; “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?”

We need to plan, save and prepare financially to live in this world. There is nothing wrong with investing for emergencies, purchasing a house, or saving for retirement. That is wisdom!

But what are we planning, preparing and investing for eternity? What are we doing for our spiritual lives? What are we investing in our children and grandchildren? What are we doing to lead others to Jesus?

Jesus asks us a question today: “What do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul or the soul of your family?” This is a matter of priority – is our spiritual life a priority?

Lord, help me to invest my life in the things that will matter for all eternity!
