In 2 Samuel 11, David sins, David tries to cover up the sin, but the plan fails because of the integrity of Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba that is carrying David’s child.
But David resorts to plan 2 to cover up his sin. 2 Samuel 11: 12-13: “Well, stay here today,” David told him, “and tomorrow you may return to the army.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next. Then David invites him to dinner and gets him drunk. But even then, he can’t get Uriah to return to his wife. Again, he slept with the king’s palace guard at the palace entrance.”
How many of us make plans to get away with sin? We can try to justify, excuse, and even avoid it, but ultimately, our plans will fail!
That is why we must confess our sins—God will forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. But the first step to confession is accepting that God is Right and I am Wrong!
God is Righteous, and I am a sinner.
God’s Word tells us, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We also read, “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.” We are sinners, and God cared enough to send His Son to die on the Cross to make us right with Him!
Lord, help me to learn lessons from David’s life. Instead of making plans and trying to avoid, run, or hide from my sin, help me to know that I can confess my sin to You and find mercy, grace, and forgiveness in Christ!
