Even God teaches us the need for a Sabbath. We need a day to rest because if we never pause in life, we will break down, break up, or break out. The Sabbath is a time to pause, reflect, and have a relationship with God.
Genesis 2: 1-3 shows us, “So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. On the seventh day, God finished His work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.”
God shows us the need to pace ourselves for the race of life. How many people never stop to rest, worship God, and spend time with their families? We are so busy trying to make a living that we have no time for living.
God created us for a relationship – a relationship with God, a relationship with our families, and a relationship with ourselves. If we remember the Sabbath, it is not just about doing religious things, but to do relationship things! When we are rested, we can be more productive the rest of the week. When we are rested, we have time to worship and serve God And develop real relationships. We have time to rest and not burn out. We have time to align ourselves with God’s purpose and life plans!
Lord, help me have a Sabbath day. It is not about a day but a principle of God. Sunday is not my Sabbath as a pastor, but my Sabbath day is Monday!
Lord, help me to live Your principle of the Sabbath in my daily life!
