Israel wanted a king like all the other nations, and God granted their desire. Samuel anoints a man named Saul to be king, and in the beginning, everything goes well. Saul is victorious in battle and delivers the people from every enemy. But eventually, Saul turns away from the Lord and stops obeying God.
This is why God warned them to allow Him to be the King of their nation. God warns us about this in our personal lives today: Do not allow anyone or anything to take my place as King in your life. You may not see any consequences in the beginning, but we will see the consequences of not allowing Jesus to be the King of our lives.
1 Samuel 15: 10-11; “Then the Lord said to Samuel, “I am SORRY that I ever made Saul king, for he has NOT BEEN LOYAL TO ME and has REFUSED TO OBEY MY COMMAND.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the Lord all night.”
If we are not careful when seeing blessings, ease, and comfort, we drift from the Lord. We know that we can become just like Saul.
Lord, my prayer today is: Help me be and stay loyal to You! Help me not to drift from loving You and making You the King of my life.
Lord, help me to obey You in every area of my life and not compromise. Help me to realize that obedience is better than sacrifice!
Lord, help me: “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things shall be added unto me.” Matthew 6:33
