God is our Provider when we follow and obey His Word and Will! We have a part in God’s blessings in our lives. His promises are conditional on our obedience to Him.
In 1 Kings 17: 1-7, we read about the prophet Elijah. He goes to King Ahab, a sinful king, and has an unpopular message to tell the King from God. He gives this word to the King. “As surely as the Lord, the God of Israel, lives – the God I serve – there will be no dew or rain during the next few years until I give the word.” Consider the courage, faith, and obedience to tell the king an unpopular word.
Then the Lord tells Elijah, I want you to go to a brook by the Jordan River. I will take care of you by allowing you to drink from that brook, and I will send the ravens to bring you food.” Think about the faith and trust that would take. How would we respond?
In verses 5-6 – we see Elijah’s response: “So Elijah DID AS THE LORD TOLD HIM. The ravens brought him bread and meat each morning and evening, and he drank from the brook.” God provided for Elijah the way that He said he would do. But what if Elijah did not go to where God wanted him to go? He would have missed the miracle, the food, the blessing, and the provision of the Lord. How many of us struggle to obey God’s Word because it may cause us to leave our comfort zone?
In verse 7 – “But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.” Everything has a season, and God knows how to get us to move and keep moving and growing in him. When God closes one door, He already knows the door He will open for us.
God is more concerned with our spiritual growth and character to keep us growing and following Him. Seasons come, and seasons will go, but God is always faithful to His Promises in His Word!
My job is to trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy!
Lord, help me to trust and obey what You tell me to do, no matter where You lead me!
Hold on to this word from the Lord: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”
