In the Book of Jeremiah, we see that disaster was coming to the people of God because of their sin and rebellion against God. No one is exempt from the choices that they make in life. If we continue to sin and rebel against God, there will be consequences because of our choices!
God calls Jeremiah to go and warn the people of the judgment of God that was going to come to their nation. Disaster was coming and they could turn to God or reject the warning.
Jeremiah prays in confidence that he will be faithful to the Lord even in the days of disaster in the nation.
Jeremiah 16:19: “Lord, you are my strength and fortress, my refuge in the day of trouble.”
Jeremiah 16:21: “The Lord says, Now I will show them My power and now I will show them My might. At last they will know and understand that I am the Lord.”
As Christians today in this world, we must pray with confidence, no matter what is going on in our nation and world. This is not the time to waver, to become fearful and anxious. This is the time for God to empower us to live for Jesus in this day.
Pray the prayer of Jeremiah:
- Lord, You are my strength! We need the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives to strengthen us spiritually. “The Lord is my refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble.” This is not the time for weak and timid Christians but for men and women who are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Lord, you are my fortress! Lord, You are my Protection! We need to run to the Lord for our protection. Psalm 91:2: “I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
- Lord, you are my refuge! A refuge is a place where you go for peace and safety! Jesus is the one who brings us peace with God, peace in us, and peace with others. In times of disaster, we can run to Jesus who is our refuge!
Lord, help me to walk and pray in confidence that you are my hiding place!
