In Revelation 3: 1-6, John writes this letter to the church in Sardis. Appearances are not always true. Some people act one way in public but another way in private. As the old saying states, “You cannot judge a book by its cover.”
In verse 1 – “He tells the church (then and today) you have a reputation of being spiritually alive, but you are dead.” We have been religious and go through the motions of following Jesus, but have we spiritually died on the inside?
In verse 2, He tells the church, “Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even the little that remains is about to die. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God.” This is a warning to every follower of Jesus to ensure that we are alive in Christ, wake up spiritually, and continue to strengthen our spiritual walk with Jesus. If not, we will not please God.
In verse 3, He tells the church, “Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to Me against. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly as unexpected as a thief.” We have a choice with God’s warning: Are we going to ignore the warning, or will we be honest, repent, and start following Jesus again?
My eternal destination is determined if I am really following Jesus! Will we respond to the Holy Spirit and change the direction of our spiritual life?
Lord, help me to walk close to You today!
