The story of Saul and David shows us the flesh vs. the Spirit. Saul was jealous of David and tried to kill him several times. Saul put out a hit list to kill David, but David avoided him many times. In 1 Samuel 24,
David had an opportunity to kill Saul. But we see the Spirit of God in David.
David creeps up to Saul and cuts off a piece of His robe. In verses 5-7, “But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut the robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this to my Lord the king. I shouldn’t attack the Lord’s anointed one, for the Lord Himself has chosen him.” So David restrained his men and did not let them kill Saul.”
We see that David was sensitive and filled with the Spirit and would not take things into his own hands. We can learn a lesson by allowing the Lord to deal with people in His time. How many people are fighting battles, hurting others with their tongues, and taking things into their own hands?
Will we be like Saul and live in the flesh, or will we be like David and walk in the Spirit?
Lord, help me walk in the Spirit today and trust You to fight my battles!
