In 2 Samuel 11 and 12, we see David’s sins of adultery, murder, cover-up, and rebellion. He tries to forget about his sin, but God sends the prophet to David to allow him to confess his sin. Eventually, David confesses his sin, but there are consequences for his disobedience. The son that was born to Bathsheba will die of sickness. David fasts and prays for his son to be healed.
In 2 Samuel 12: 19-20, we read, “David hears that the child has died.” What is his response?
“Then David arose from the earth and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped.”
Think about David’s response. David’s son became sick and died because of David’s sin. He dies, and what does David do? He worships God.
How would we respond to the tragedies of life? Would we be angry at God or worship God? Would we stop going to church or run to church? Would we still love God or be angry at God?
Lord, help me worship you in all seasons of life. Help me realize that worship is not just emotions and songs but a lifestyle of trust, faith, and obedience to you in every situation!
