In Luke 16, Jesus teaches about the reality of heaven and hell! We live in a culture that no longer believes in a literal heaven or hell. Many in our culture today do not want to believe in life after death, and that we will need to take responsibility for our choices now.
Jesus tells the story of a rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16:19-31. The rich man had everything anyone could ever want. Another man named Lazarus was poor and covered with sores. He had none of the benefits of living in this world.
How many of us would choose to be Lazarus? Not many of us, because we determine success in life by how wealthy and healthy a person is.
But we need to remember that there is a destination we cannot escape: death! God’s Word tells us: “It is appointed for man once to die and then comes the judgment.”
We read that both men died! We will all die, and then we will stand before God. Are we ready for this day? How do we get ready? By accepting Jesus Christ into our lives and becoming a follower of Jesus!
Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin are death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The most important question you will need to decide that has eternal consequences is: “What are you going to do with Jesus?”
Lord, help us make the right choices, because our choices today determine our future outcomes!
