How do we respond to the tests and trials of life? Genesis 22 shows one of Abraham’s tests concerning his son. Isaac was the promised son, an only child, and God asked Abraham to offer his son as a sacrifice. Think about this and what that would be like.

What would we do? But look at what Abraham does:

In Genesis 22: 3-5, we see a response of faith, trust, and obedience. “The next morning, Abraham got up early. He saddled his money and took two of his servants and his son, Isaac. Then he chopped wood for a fire for a burnt offering and set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day of their journey, Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. “Stay here with the donkey,” Abraham said to the servants. “The boy and I will travel a little farther. We will worship there, and then WE will come right back.”

We see that Abraham responded with:

  • Obedience – the following day, he got up and left on the journey to offer his son! He did not delay, discuss this, or debate what the Lord asked him to do. He obeyed and left on the journey.
  • Faith – he obeyed and believed the promise of God. We will get back to you. He did not say, I will come back, but we will come back. He believed in God.
  • Worship – We will worship God, trust that He is faithful, and will keep His promises!

How will we respond to the tests in our lives today? Lord, help us respond with obedience, faith, and worship!
