In 1 Samuel 11, David commits adultery, tries to cover it up, and commits murder and the killing of other soldiers to cover up his sin. David thinks that he has covered it up and that no one knows what has happened. David goes back to living as if nothing happened.
But in 1 Samuel 12, God sends Nathan, the prophet, to David and tells him a story in verses 1-4. David is furious and vows that this man should die. He must repay the man that he stole from.
In verse 7 – Nathan, the prophet, says to David: “You are that man.” In verse 9 – “Why, then, have you despised the Word of the Lord and done this horrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite.”
In verse 11 – Nathan says what the Lord will do to David because of his sin. “The Lord will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view. You did it secretly, but I will make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.”
Wow! David thought that he got away with his sin, but God saw His sin, His cover-up, His deceit, and His murder and would deal with David.
God’s Word says, “Be sure your sin will find you out.” It might not be immediately or in the short term, but it will be revealed. But God gives us an answer to deal with every sin!
Here is the good news for everyone: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Lord, I confess my sins to You and ask for your complete and total forgiveness today!
