When Saul dies, David is anointed King. God favors and blesses David! David restores Israel and defeats enemies who are coming against the children of God!
But David begins to drift, take it easy, and not do what God called him to do. When the men were out to battle, David stayed behind and made a bad decision that would change his destiny.
2 Samuel 11:1 says, “But David remained at Jerusalem.” Instead of being in battle, he was taking it easy. We must always be ready for the spiritual battle we are fighting. The enemy takes no time off.
In verses 2-5, we see the results of David’s decision that would lead to defeat.
David was walking on the roof of the king’s house. He sees a beautiful woman bathing on another roof. David finds out who this woman is. He finds out that she’s the wife of another soldier, Uriah.
Instead of fleeing from the temptation, David brings Bathsheba to the palace. He sleeps with her, and she goes home.
In verse 5, “And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, “I am pregnant!”
We know that David had a one-night stand with Bathsheba, and she becomes pregnant.
This is wrong in so many areas: lust, adultery, assault, cover-up, but David thought this would go all away.
But it didn’t go away because Bathsheba was pregnant.
How many of us think we can willfully disobey God and get away with it? We may think nothing will happen and get away with our sins.
But we must remind ourselves what God’s Word says: “Be sure that your sins will find you out.”
Lord, help me to be ready for the enemy’s temptations and tricks! I pray, “Lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil!”
