Lord, today, empower me to make my desires Your desires so I am headed in Your direction

by Ron Squibb

Going on a journey is always good, but nothing is better than coming home. Experiences are fun and exciting, but traveling can become overwhelming and tiring.

I am glad to be home with my family.

The spiritual journey is the same way. The journey is long and can be exhausting. We need to realize that when we are tired, hungry, and on the move, we will face all kinds of temptations in life.

In James 1: 13-14, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and He himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.”

Here are a couple of lessons we can learn about the journey:

  • Every person will face temptation on the journey. Every follower of Jesus will face temptation. But as a follower of Jesus, we can say no to temptation. I do not have to give in to any temptation because Jesus is in us and gives us the power to say no to the temptations of life.
  • God does not tempt us to sin. God cannot have anything to do with sin. That is why He sent His One and Only Son to die on the cross.
  • Every person is tempted when lured or enticed by his desires! That is why we must examine our hearts, minds, and our spirit to surrender our desires to the Lord. We need to realize that our desires will determine our direction, and our direction will lead to our destination!

Lord, today empower me to make my desires Your desires so I am headed in Your direction!
