Mindanao Travelogue Series – Part 1
I have been invited by the Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Tourism to tour around Mindanao from December 3 to 7, 2021 in hopes of boosting our tourism despite the pandemic. I will share more details about my recent trip to Mindanao and why Mindanao should be your next travel destination too!
First off, hats off to the amazing Department of Tourism and Tourism Promotions Board for all their efforts and hard work in making sure Philippine Tourism remains top of the mind destination despite the pandemic. One thing is for sure: It is indeed more fun in the Philippines!
My overall travel experience to Mindanao had been extremely organized, and despite additional requirements for the safety of everyone, they are almost effortless!
We all wish for things to get back to the old “normal,” but while waiting for things to get better, there are ways to explore and enjoy the beauty of the Philippines.
Great job, and shout out to Philippine Airlines for the most courteous and friendly team, not to mention the new snack of peas and mangoes (I swear, they are THAT good!).
So pack your bags and head off to the magical place of Mindanao!
Seven Seas Water Park and Resort – Misamis Oriental
The first stop is Seven Seas Water Park Resort, a world-class pirate-themed waterpark and the largest pirate-themed park in the Philippines located minutes from metro Cagayan de Oro — the gateway to the Philippines food basket and a popular adventure tourism destination. It is near the Laguindingan airport, which s readily accessible from the waterpark. The resort has OVER 12 thrilling slides, a 5,000 square meter dual wave pool, a 400 meter long lazy river, and delicious open restaurants of your choice.
The waterpark has a wave pool, cottages, huts, cabanas, and a Cyclone. It is a vast conical steel fiberglass structure 20 meters in diameter that can accommodate a four-person raft that drops from a six-story launch tube. Riders experience near vertical spins and wallops as the raft swings on the funnel walls.
The Buccaneer Bay dual wave offers families a distinct area where waves can range from 0.50 to 1.0meter height and a separate venue for the brave boogie boarders. The facility can program the waves at 1 to 1.5 meters for would-be surfers who want to learn the basics.
The Riptide Reef boomerang slide allows two riders on a unique two holes inflatable raft to slide vertically into the bottom of a sheer wall. They can experience an extended free fall as the raft reverses direction and exits into the landing pool.
The Pira-Chute is an open spiral slide where the rider rotates at least twice before landing in a spray of water and foam.
The Mighty Maui River is the longest lazy river in the Philippines at 400 meters (1,312 ft) in length. It has a powerful wave generator that makes people on inflatable tubes have an exciting time as they snake thru islands, low-hanging bridges, and Fort San Agustin’s tunnel moat.
The Plank Drop is the Philippines’ first vertical aqua loop water slide. A transparent capsule-like cylinder from a height of 20 meters launches the riders.
The Pacific Racer is a three-tube speed challenge slide. Participants race against each other using special rubber mats as they launch from a height of 15 meters into claustrophobic spiral tubes leading to a high-speed exit 100 meters away.
Seven Seas Water Park Resort is perfect for families and young people who want to enjoy fun and exciting water activities, and they are now open for everyone to enjoy.
The facility is super clean, very safe, gorgeous, as you can see from the pictures, and the staff is friendly and courteous. And for only Php 999, adults can enjoy the entire weekend! I feel incredibly safe going to a place like this because of the protocols they have in place to ensure the public’s safety.
I honestly could not believe such a theme park exists here in the Philippines. This place brought out the kid in me, and my stay here has been pure enjoyment.
