Jesus is talking about the cost of following Him. Sadly in the American church, we want to hear about comfort, not costs! Jesus is saying that there are costs to following Him.
Luke 14:34-35: “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? Flavorless salt is good neither for soil or the manure pile. It is thrown away. Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.”
Following Jesus is a lifelong journey. When we accept Jesus into our lives, it changes the destiny and the direction of our lives. Jesus is saying we must grow to be like Him daily.
Rituals, following the rules, and just going to church does not keep us in a relationship with Him. This is what makes us lose our spiritual flavor.
We need to maintain the spice of Jesus in our lives. We must maintain our relationship with Him to be useful in His Kingdom!
Lord, keep me salty and useful all the days of my life!
