NEW YORK – The Philippine Independence Day Council (PIDCI) will hold its annual meeting and elections on Oct. 2 at 4907 69th Street, Level M, Woodside, NY 11377. The meeting will start at 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
In the Notice of Meeting sent to all presidents of member-organizations, Comelec Chair Chris De Guzman said that after a review process of all certificates of candidacy received, the Board of Directors has approved the candidates running for the 2022 presidency and members of the board of directors.
Leonora Galleros-Tinio, a CPA, will bid for PIDCI president. The seven candidates for the office of board director are Mary Jean David, Marissa de Guzman, Czarmel Lopez, Jay Layug, Antero Martinez, Aida Tagle, and Margarita Wisotsky, the outgoing president.
According to De Guzman, the Comelec has not received other certificates of candidacy besides those approved by the committee and the Board. While member organizations will elect all candidates, the new set of board of directors will select the vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
De Guzman added that the membership committee, chaired by Matt Reyes, reported that 99 organizations are eligible to vote in this year’s elections. The Board also approved the application for membership of the following organizations: D’Balayan East Coast, Inc, Filipino American Community of St. Anthony, JPR Passaic County Chapter, Passaic Youth Basketball for Jose P. Rizal, San Beda University Alumni Association, Bangarian Association Northeast, Knights of Rizal New York, Central Jersey Kalahi Athletic Association, and Association of Filipino American Accountants of New Jersey.
This year’s Comelec is composed of Chris De Guzman, chair; Myrna Young and Sofie Abad, members.
PIDCI said it will strictly implement the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19 Delta variant. The guidelines include:
• Must properly wear a mask throughout the event
• Temperature screening of attendees and completion of a brief
questionnaire before entry
• Must observe social distancing, at least 6 feet apart in lines and at other
• Limit the number of people inside the venue and occupants of
restrooms at one time
• Require frequent hand washing and/or use of sanitizers, and
• Limit sharing of pens and supplies
Chris De Guzman, Rachel Banez, and Arnel Piamonte, whose terms end in October 2021, are not seeking a second term. Jean Allarey David, Marissa De Guzman, and Jay Layug are vying for a second term.
