PIDCI’s search for Diwa ng Kalayaan goes on

NEW YORK (April 2) — Six young beauties are early entries for the Diwa ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence) program being conducted by the Philippine Independence Day Council, Inc. (PIDCI) as part of this year’s commemoration of the 111th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine Independence, it was announced.

In a statement, Jojit J. Jalandoni, the chairperson of PIDCI’s Diwa ng Kalayaan Search, Selection and Coronation Pageant and Gala Committee, added that the contest is still open and the search goes on for candidates.

Four of the six candidates who have registered were at the initial photo shoot called by the Committee this past week.  Two other registered candidates were no-shows.   The four who showed up were Janette Gomez of New York, and Renee Nicole Lago, Natasha Abella and Alexandra Uy of New Jersey.

The PIDCI 2009 Diwa ng Kalayaan (Spirit of Independence) will be selected and crowned Sunday, April 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Diwa ng Kalayaan Pageant and Gala.

The pageant is slated at the Sheraton Newark Airport Hotel at 128 Frontage road, Newark, NJ 07114-3721.  The Diwa ng Kalayaan is the most coveted beauty, brains and talent title among young ladies ages 16 to 21 of Filipino descent in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut-Philadelphia area.

The top prize for Diwa ng Kalayaan is a round trip airline ticket to the Philippines as Ambassador of Goodwill representing the PIDCI and the Filipino and Filipino American community of the New york region and as a participant in the Philippine Ambassador’s Consul Generals and Tourism Dierctors annual tour to the Philippines.
