NEW YORK – PLDT Global Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of PLDT Group, the Philippines largest telecommunication firm, is extending its reach in the US Market with the launching of its U.S. East Coast Point of Presence (POP).  At an event held at the Marquis Hotel in New York City March 19, PLDT presented its new product offering to prospective clients.

PLDT executives Ernesto Alberto, Executive Vice President, PLDT Group, and Head, Enterprise and International and Carrier Business; Jovy Hernandez, First VP and Head, PLDT Alpha Enterprise and SMART Groups, and Richard Ortega, Managing Director of PLDT United States took turns in presenting PLDT’s international and U.S. business operations and services.

PLDT said that their international POP will cover both Mobility (for consumer) and Enterprise (corporate) market. In terms of Mobility, their target clients are the overseas Filipinos.  Working with T-Mobile, their U.S. partner, PLDT said that individuals will be able to exchange calls and texts with their families and friends in the Philippines for local airtime costs with the use of dual-numbered Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards. SIM cards are used in all mobile phones, and they allow a network to recognize phones that have subscriptions to that network.

With regard to its Enterprise operations, PLDT said it will tap Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies.  PLDT considers the U.S. an important Enterprise market since 80% of BPOsin the Philippines are US companies. BPO is a $20 billion industry in the Philippines employing 1 million Filipinos.

Consul General Mario De Leon congratulated this initiative of PLDT. He noted that PLDT is not new to New York saying that it is the only Filipino-owned company trading in the New York Stock Exchange. He also acknowledged the importance of PLDT’s international presence to serve overseas Filipinos particularly the 3.5 million that are based in 50 states in the U.S.  De Leon highlighted the positive economic performance of the Philippines as reported by international agencies such as Bloomberg Business which named the Philippines as the Second Fastest Growing Economy in the world and the International Monetary Fund’s prediction of an even higher economic growth of 6.3 percent by the end of 2015.

In his speech, Consul General De Leon said the progress which the Philippines is experiencing is “fueled in part by Public-Private Partnership in infrastructure, communications and utility projects of the government and corporations like PLDT.”

PLDT said it has plans of further increasing its assets and products in international markets by utilizing their business portfolio and making services like healthcare, entertainment and news available to their mobile clients.

PLDT Global Corporation is a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), the leading supplier of domestic and international telecommunications services in the Philippines.
